Josh Hartnett Battles a Sea Monster in First Teaser for Netflix Thriller Series ‘Below’

Netflix has released the first teaser trailer for "Below," a six-episode thriller series starring Josh Hartnett, in which a small Newfoundland fishing town is terrorised by a mysterious sea creature. The show is notable for marking a return to genre television for Hartnett, who also serves as an executive producer, and follows his previous roles in series such as "Penny Dreadful" and "Paradise Lost."
Hartnett plays Calvin Penney, a stubborn fisherman still haunted by his father's mysterious death, who teams up with a visiting marine researcher, played by Mackenzie Davis, to confront the creature and uncover the island's buried secrets. The cast also includes Charlie Heaton, Ruby Stokes, Kaleb Horn, Rohan Campbell and Willow Kean, with Jesse McKeown serving as creator and showrunner. Filmed on location in St. John's, Newfoundland, "Below" will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on 10 September 2026 before streaming on Netflix from 8 October 2026.
