Joy Division and New Order drummer Stephen Morris has spoken about the upcoming release of Eternal (Live), a 14-disc box set gathering 16 Joy Division concert recordings, including two previously unheard, all remastered from original cassette sources with the help of engineers at Abbey Road Studios. The release, out on 25 September, addresses decades of demand from fans who have long relied on a bootleg market for live Joy Division material of variable, often poor, sound quality, and comes as the band prepares for their induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

The set also includes two DVDs featuring two-and-a-half hours of concert footage and a newly edited version of the 1982 documentary Joy Division – A Malcolm Whitehead Film. Morris, speaking from his home in Rainow, England, reflected on the band's early naivety about bootlegging and their previous belief, following the 1981 compilation Still, that they had released everything there was to release following Ian Curtis's death in 1980. The interview also touched on Morris and his wife, New Order keyboardist Gillian Gilbert, stepping back from the band's upcoming South American tour due to personal health matters, as well as the long-running dispute with former bassist Peter Hook.
