American singer-songwriter Joy Oladokun has announced her new album 'Hope Is A Heavy Thing', due for release on 25th September 2026. The record follows the acclaim she received for her 2024 album 'Observations From A Crowded Room' and a recent collaboration with Nigerian artist Adekunle Gold on the single 'Zombie', marking another step forward in a strong run of form for the artist.

The 12-track album was recorded across studios in Nashville and New York, and Oladokun has described it as an attempt "to help myself find my light again after burning out." She says the record draws on influences ranging from the Soulquarians and Bob Dylan to afrobeats rhythms, J Dilla's sampling style, the Ronettes and 1960s/70s protest rock, calling it her most authentic work to date. It is preceded by new single 'Kind', with a further advance track referenced in the announcement.
