Just 1 in 5 Republicans enthusiastic about rest of Trump term: Poll

The Hill · 3 hours ago

A poll found that only about one in five Republicans said they were enthusiastic about the remainder of President Trump’s term, indicating a weakening intensity of support even as most Republicans still approve of his performance. This matters because diminished enthusiasm among the party’s base could make it harder for Republicans to mobilise voters ahead of the midterm elections.

The Washington Post-Ipsos survey put Trump’s overall approval rating at 37%, with 61% disapproving, while 81% of Republicans approved. Views were particularly negative on the economy and the Iran conflict, with 33% and 29% of Americans respectively approving of his handling of those issues; the poll surveyed 2,648 adults from 8 to 13 July.

  • Republican approval remains high, but enthusiasm has fallen.
  • Trump’s overall approval stood at 37%.
  • Economy and Iran were major weaknesses.
