Just like The Odyssey, Hunger Games fans worry what they will miss if they don’t see Sunrise on the Reaping in IMAX
Fans are debating whether seeing The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping in a standard cinema will mean missing parts of the picture, after an IMAX cinema shared footage showing the film’s expanded aspect ratio. The concern matters because some wider shots appear to reveal more of the arena action, including a key death spotted by a viewer.
The prequel is the franchise’s first film made for IMAX and is expected to include more than 45 minutes in the expanded 1.90:1 format. Set 24 years before the original story, it follows 16-year-old Haymitch Abernathy in the 50th Hunger Games, the second Quarter Quell, which features twice the usual number of players. The film, with cameos from Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson, is due in cinemas on 20 November.
In short
- Fans fear standard screens may crop arena details.
- The film has over 45 minutes of expanded IMAX footage.
