K/DA Q&A: Sophie Powers, new voice of Evelynn, talks ‘Firestarter’ EP, her K-pop biases, and League of Legends Worlds performance

Sophie Powers, a 22-year-old Canadian singer-songwriter, has joined Riot Games’ virtual K-pop group K/DA as the new voice of Evelynn. The group’s four-track comeback has brought renewed attention to the League of Legends music project, with “Firestarter” reaching the top of Spotify’s US and global charts.

Powers said she was invited to audition after meeting Riot’s head of music at an event connected to Arcane, and described a lengthy process involving many versions of the songs. She is due to perform at the League of Legends Worlds Grand Finals in Brooklyn next month alongside i-dle members Soyeon and Miyeon, and Mimi Webb. Previous singers to portray Evelynn include Madison Beer and Kim Petras.
