K-pop’s ‘Big Four’ and South Korean government reveal plans for Fanomenon festival in Seoul and Los Angeles

Music Business Worldwide · 8 hours ago

South Korea's four major K-pop entertainment companies—HYBE, SM Entertainment, YG Entertainment, and JYP Entertainment—have partnered with the country's government to establish a new music festival called FANOMENON, launching in Seoul from December 2-12, 2027. The festival will utilise two venues: Seoul Arena and the KINTEX exhibition centre in Goyang. Notably, the awards structure departs from industry tradition by honouring the most dedicated fan communities annually, as determined through quantitative data analysis, rather than recognising individual artists.

The inaugural event is projected to attract roughly 520,000 visitors, including approximately 200,000 international attendees, and generate an estimated economic contribution of 1 trillion Korean Won (approximately USD $680 million) to Seoul's economy. The four companies have formed an equally-owned joint venture to operate the festival, which is currently undergoing review by South Korea's Fair Trade Commission. Plans are underway to expand FANOMENON internationally, with organisers considering a Los Angeles edition beginning in May 2028 and the establishment of dedicated K-culture performance venues with 20,000-seat capacities in major cities worldwide.
