KAMELOT frontman Tommy Karevik has discussed the concept behind the band's new album "Dark Asylum" in an interview with Poland's MetalSide.pl. He explained that writing the record while the band was heavily touring proved challenging, as he finds it difficult to be in "creative mode" and "live mode" simultaneously, meaning most songs came together after tour commitments rather than during them.

Karevik described "Dark Asylum" as a concept album set in an asylum, with the overarching theme being that people are "prisoners of their own creations" who can find a way out of fear and doubt from within themselves. The record features characters such as doctors and patients across different scenes, though Karevik ensured each song's lyrics stand alone outside the album's narrative. He also explained his writing process involves living with a song's music for a long time before adding lyrics and melodies. The album has been released across numerous formats, including gold, silver and black vinyl, special white label, white splatter and blood-filled vinyl editions with a 24-page booklet, plus CD digipaks, a two-disc instrumental version, cassette and digital formats.
