Princess of Wales launches research into nature’s benefits for young children
The Princess of Wales has launched research into how spending time in nature can support babies’ and young children’s social and emotional development. She says outdoor time is especially important in a digitally focused age, and hopes the work will help families access nature-rich environments that support children’s long-term wellbeing.
The Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood will bring together research and practical experience from academics, childcare practitioners, charities and environmental organisations. Polling commissioned by the Centre found that 84 per cent of parents believe nature benefits children’s wellbeing and development, but only 33 per cent say their child spends time in nature every day; more than 60 per cent want their child to spend more time outdoors.
