Kenny Chesney Reveals the Hilarious Way His Second Duet With Megan Moroney Came to Be

American Songwriter · 2 hours ago

Country star Kenny Chesney has explained how singer Megan Moroney came to feature on his new track "It Just Got Weird," revealing that she essentially invited herself onto the song. Speaking on Talk Shop Live about his upcoming album Silver Sands Marina, Chesney said Moroney heard about the track through a mutual songwriter friend and called him to insist on singing it, rather than being approached by Chesney himself. He said he was glad she pushed for the role, praising the raw, weary quality of her voice as a perfect match for the song's tense, edgy theme.

"It Just Got Weird" will be the pair's second collaboration, following their 2025 hit "You Had to Be There," which earned both CMA and ACM award nominations after Moroney had previously supported Chesney on tour. In a separate interview with Today, Moroney praised Chesney's stagecraft, saying his stripped-back, no-frills approach still commands stadium crowds because of the strength of his songwriting. Chesney's new album, Silver Sands Marina, is scheduled for release on 25 September.
