Kenny Ortega Says His New Lego Friends ‘Heartlake’ Movie Brings the Bricks to Life ‘in the Most Wonderful Musical Capacity’
Kenny Ortega has executive produced *Lego Friends: Heartlake the Musical*, the first musical feature based on the Lego Friends line. The 50-minute film follows Daisy, played by Jada Langley, as she is transported to Heartlake City, makes friends and helps save a landmark; it premieres on 16 October on Lego’s YouTube channel, Peacock and Netflix.
Ortega helped shape the story and choreography, chose longtime collaborator Paul Becker to direct, and worked with an all-British cast he describes as able to sing, dance and act. Filming, including reshoots, took about 25 to 26 days and used a virtual world displayed on a curved LED screen. Ortega says the project was a modestly funded experiment that could lead to a larger follow-up.
