Cudi said he and Ye had each reached out over the past week simply to see how the other was doing, calling the exchange "nice" and suggesting a collaboration could come "one day soon". The pair, who met in 2006 and worked together after Ye signed Cudi to G.O.O.D. Music in 2008, have had a turbulent relationship, including an apology from Ye in early 2024 and Cudi's admission in August 2025 that their friendship would never fully return to how it was, citing hurtful comments Ye made after designer Virgil Abloh's death. Cudi had already appeared to signal an openness to reconciliation earlier this year by closing shows on his Rebel Ragers Tour with their joint track "Reborn".
