An 86-year-old woman in Moore, Oklahoma, has been mauled to death by her son's dog while she was looking after the animal during his imprisonment. Beatrice Carruth was found bleeding on the floor of her home and pronounced dead on the Thursday evening, in a case that has prompted her family to demand tougher charges against her son. The story has drawn wider attention partly because the shelter released a photograph of the calm-looking, "puppy-eyed" dog taken shortly after the fatal attack.

The dog, identified by shelter staff as a Labrador retriever crossed with an American pit bull terrier based on its physical characteristics, was quarantined at the Moore Animal Welfare and Adoption Center and euthanised four days later, on 6 July 2026. Relatives believe Carruth was pressured into caring for the animal despite its alleged history of aggression while her son, Jason Clay Ingram, remained in custody at the Cleveland County Detention Center. Court records indicate that in May, Ingram had been arrested after allegedly choking his mother and cutting the telephone lines as she tried to call 911, and the dog reportedly attacked her again just days later.
