Jordan Burton has been unanimously convicted of murder after a jury deliberated for six hours, 16 years after he participated in a brutal attack on teenager Daniel Allright in Deptford, south-east London, on 13 September 2006. The conviction comes after Allright died from an epileptic seizure in his bath in March 2022, with prosecutors arguing that the serious brain injuries sustained during the attack were the direct cause of his death. Burton, now 34, had previously admitted to violent disorder and grievous bodily harm in 2007 but denied the murder charge. He now faces a life sentence, with the judge to determine the minimum term before he becomes eligible for parole.

During the attack, Allright was struck repeatedly to the head with a wooden object, an advertising board and a bicycle chain by a gang of up to five teenagers, which caused internal bleeding and necessitated two skull operations, including one to remove part of his skull to relieve pressure on the brain. The injuries left Allright with post-traumatic epilepsy, which he managed throughout his life under the careful monitoring of his mother, Geraldine Henderson, who kept detailed records of his seizures. In the months leading up to his death, his seizures had notably worsened in both frequency and severity. Allright's death was ruled to be a direct consequence of the injuries inflicted during the 2006 attack.
