Michael Kim shot a historic 12-under-par 59 in the second round of the 3M Open in Minnesota, becoming only the 15th golfer to record the score on the US PGA Tour. The American’s bogey-free round put him three shots clear at the halfway stage and places him among a small group of players to have broken 60 on tour.

The 33-year-old made 12 birdies, including five consecutively from the third hole and four in a row to finish, sealing the 59 with a 24-foot putt at the 18th. Kim said he deliberately attacked the closing holes because 60 or 61 made little difference, while the PGA Tour record remains Jim Furyk’s 58 at the 2016 Travelers Championship.
