King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard Announce Electronic Album: Watch Video for Lead Single
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, the prolific Australian rock band, announced on Wednesday 8 July that their 28th studio album will be a hard electronic project titled Alien Metal, due out later this summer on their own p(doom) Records. The announcement matters as a notable stylistic shift for the band, pushing further into darker, heavier electronic territory than their earlier experiments in the genre.
The news arrived alongside the album's lead single, the jungle-influenced "Level 5", whose video was directed by Hayden Somerville and features a cameo by actor Vince Colosimo. The band said the record was years in the making, with large amounts of material scrapped before it came together during a single late-night jam session. Where their 2023 album The Silver Cord explored ambient and acid house, Alien Metal draws on techno, hardcore, ravey house and jungle. The announcement follows news of upcoming live dates, including "rave shows" in Brooklyn and New York, and their sold-out Field of Vision festival in Colorado.
