Kingdom Hearts Collection Switch 2 Local Box Art Reportedly Updated
Square Enix has updated the local Switch 2 box art for the forthcoming physical Kingdom Hearts Collection after criticism of its previous visual design and allegations that it used generative AI. The company says the artwork was made by its development team without generative AI, and that the problems were caused by human error; it says corrected assets have now been used where appropriate.
The replacement cover reportedly matches the Japanese listing and uses Tetsuya Nomura’s original artwork, with clouds replacing the previous buildings and altered character positioning. It also removes a criticised depiction of Donald Duck’s four-fingered hand. The Switch 2 release remains a Game-Key Card and is scheduled for 8 October 2026.

Kingdom Hearts is a long-running series of action role-playing games made by Square Enix, combining original characters with figures and worlds from Disney films. It follows Sora, a boy who travels between different worlds with Donald Duck and Goofy while fighting creatures known as the Heartless.
The collection brings together several Kingdom Hearts games and related stories, giving new players a way to follow the wider series. Tetsuya Nomura is the series’ creator and character designer, and his artwork has been closely associated with its visual identity.
Physical game packaging can matter to collectors as well as buyers choosing a title in shops. A Game-Key Card is a physical card that provides access to download a game, rather than containing the full game data itself.
