Kit Harington has signalled renewed openness to reprising his role as Jon Snow in a potential HBO sequel, representing a notable shift from his earlier reluctance. The actor, who is joining the Harry Potter franchise, stated on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that he now feels more comfortable engaging with the character and world of Westeros, having gained perspective through other projects and personal development.

The Jon Snow sequel was developed approximately two years ago before being shelved due to inability to find the appropriate story direction. The original concept depicted Jon as a traumatised, isolated man who has abandoned his direwolf Ghost and sword Longclaw, with Harington keen for the character to die rather than achieve heroic redemption. HBO engaged new writer Quoc Dang Tran from Drops of God last year to attempt reviving the project with a potential shift to the Essos setting. Harington's changed perspective stems from other work undertaken since and credits Harry Potter audiobooks, which supported his recovery journey, with contributing to his renewed confidence in the character.
