MGM+ has released a trailer for its four-part adaptation of Charles Dickens’s A Tale of Two Cities, starring Kit Harington, François Civil and Mirren Mack. The historical drama frames the story around a love triangle between Lucie Manette, Charles Darnay and lawyer Sydney Carton, set against rising tensions between Britain and France before the French Revolution.
Mack plays Lucie, who learns that her presumed-dead father may be alive in Paris, while Civil’s French émigré Darnay is arrested for treason. Harington’s Carton helps seek Darnay’s release and accompanies Lucie towards Paris; the series, created by Daniel West, premieres on MGM+ on 6 September with weekly episodes in the US, parts of Europe and Latin America.

Lucie Manette is a young Englishwoman whose father has been held in secret for many years in Paris. Charles Darnay is a Frenchman living in England, while Sydney Carton is an English lawyer who becomes closely involved with both of them.
The story is known for contrasting private loyalties and romance with the wider violence and uncertainty of revolution. Its central relationships develop as France moves towards the uprising that began in 1789.
