Deadline ·

KJ Apa has asked Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa whether he could appear in the upcoming Afterlife with Archie adaptation. Apa, who played Archie for all seven seasons of Riverdale, said he would enjoy making a cameo, though he does not know which character he might play.

The series is due to premiere on Disney+ at Halloween 2027, following a script-to-series order last October. Archie Andrews is the central character in the long-running Archie Comics stories, which follow him and his friends in the fictional town of Riverdale. KJ Apa played Archie in the television series Riverdale, whose showrunner was Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.

Afterlife with Archie is a comic series by Aguirre-Sacasa and artist Francesco Francavilla. It reimagines Riverdale as a zombie-apocalypse story, beginning when a spell goes wrong and Archie and his friends must try to survive.

The planned television adaptation brings that horror story to a new format. Its connection to Riverdale and Archie Comics links it to an established cast of characters, while giving the story a darker setting.
