Korean sales agency Finecut has confirmed new Japanese deals for its Toronto festival slate, with Geek Pictures acquiring 3D animated feature "Long Long Night" and Cannes Directors' Fortnight title "Dora". The agreements underline continued international demand for Korean cinema as the autumn festival season gathers pace, with both titles already carrying strong pedigree from earlier selections.
"Long Long Night", the feature debut of Youm Kyu Bock, is adapted from a bestselling Korean novel that has sold over 800,000 copies and featured on Munich's 2021 White Ravens list; after premiering in Toronto's Centrepiece section, it heads to competition slots at Busan and Sitges. "Dora", July Jung's third feature, premiered at Cannes and has been invited to Busan's Gala Presentation section, with Finecut also securing a separate Taiwan deal for the film with Light Year Images. Finecut's wider Toronto line-up includes animated feature "Guardians Of The Video Game" and Takuya Miyahara's horror-thriller "Wash Away", which will premiere at Sitges.
