Kris Jenner has confirmed that her mother, Mary Jo "MJ" Shannon, died on 16 July at the age of 91, sharing an extended tribute to her on Instagram. Jenner described her mother as "the heart of our family" who taught her "to love your family fiercely, to be kind, to show up for the people you love, and to never take a single moment together for granted," adding that "there are no words that could ever capture what she has meant to me." Shannon was a well-known figure to viewers of the Kardashian-Jenner reality franchise, having appeared regularly across "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" and its successor series "The Kardashians," including recent episodes documenting her declining health in old age.
In a 2025 instalment of "The Kardashians," Jenner had become emotional after a difficult phone call with her then-90-year-old mother, saying "it just gets to the point in life where you can't be by yourself anymore… it makes me sad, I just hate it when she's in so much pain." Shannon is survived by six grandchildren — Kourtney, Kim, Khloé and Rob Kardashian, and Kendall and Kylie Jenner — along with 13 great-grandchildren. Jenner closed her tribute by saying "when I look at my kids and my grandkids, I will forever see pieces of you in all of us," thanking her mother for "the greatest childhood" and "a beautiful blessed life."
