Kris Jenner has confirmed that her mother, Mary Jo "MJ" Shannon, died on Thursday at the age of 91, paying tribute to her in an extended Instagram post. Jenner wrote that "there are no words that could ever capture what she has meant to me," describing her mother as "the heart of our family" who taught her the importance of loyalty, kindness and cherishing time together. Shannon was a familiar figure to viewers of the Kardashian-Jenner reality franchise, having appeared regularly across "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" and its successor series "The Kardashians".

Recent episodes of "The Kardashians" had shown Shannon's declining health, including a 2025 instalment in which Jenner grew emotional after a difficult phone call with her then-90-year-old mother, saying "it just gets to the point in life where you can't be by yourself anymore." Shannon is survived by six grandchildren — Kourtney, Kim, Khloé and Rob Kardashian, and Kendall and Kylie Jenner — along with 13 great-grandchildren, and Jenner's tribute closed by saying she would "forever see pieces of you in all of us."
