Kurt Vile and Esoteric of hip-hop group Czarface performed together for the first time in Boston, with Esoteric rapping over Vile’s 2018 song “Bassackwards”. The collaboration follows Vile’s public praise for a Czarface/MF DOOM album, and may signal interest in future music between the artists.

The appearance took place at the Royale during Vile’s tour for his new album, Philadelphia’s Been Good To Me. Czarface had previously encouraged Vile to work together after his Pitchfork “Perfect 10” selection, while the group’s forthcoming album Czarface Meets Frankie Pulitzer, featuring Tom Hardy’s alter ego, is due next month.
