Kyler Murray's first game as the Minnesota Vikings' starting quarterback ended in disaster after he was knocked out of the match with a head injury in the opening quarter. The 2019 first overall pick had been signed by Minnesota in the off-season as the team's next franchise quarterback, but his debut began badly with an interception on only his second pass before he was forced off with a concussion.

Murray was scrambling when Packers defensive end Lukas Van Ness struck him in the helmet with a forearm, and as he fell he took a further blow to the neck and head from safety Javon Bullard, which knocked his helmet off and drew a personal foul. He appeared to display a "fencing response", an involuntary reflex associated with head trauma, though he was able to walk off unaided. He was officially ruled out and will now enter the NFL's concussion protocol, with backup Carson Wentz taking over; typical recovery for a first concussion is around two weeks, though it can range from one to three.
