L.A Boom Boxes & Ohio Tornado Sirens: The Eclectic Inspirations Behind Dance Artist iimbi’s Debut EP
Ohio-born Issa Leigh has released his debut EP, *Technology*, under the name iimbi, combining trance, ghettotech and world sounds. The six-track project grew from his return to Los Angeles after seven months in New York, and reflects the city’s restless energy and the artist’s decision to commit fully to music.
Leigh wrote and produced nearly all of the EP, largely working alone and drawing on scenes from downtown LA, including people playing breakbeat music from boom boxes. The song “CGI Rodeo” took weeks to produce and later gained lyrics shaped by memories of Ohio, late-night drives and tornado siren tests; other tracks came together more quickly.
In short
- iimbi’s debut EP *Technology* has six tracks.
- The sound blends trance, ghettotech and world music.
- LA street life and Ohio memories shaped the project.
