Labour MP Jess Asato is suing Elon Musk's AI company xAI after its chatbot Grok was used to create fake sexualised images and videos of her, including one depicting her as a sexual assault victim, which she says left her feeling "distressed and violated". Her lawyers have published the particulars of claim, alleging Grok was instructed to operate with "no restrictions on adult sexual content or offensive content" and to "assume good intent", and that the tool sometimes added explicit material even when users hadn't requested it. The case is significant because it argues the harm was not accidental misuse but a deliberate design choice, raising broader questions about accountability as AI companies push towards more autonomous, less supervised tools.

The claim, filed by lawyers at AWO, alleges xAI breached data protection law and misused Asato's private information, and seeks a court order forcing the system into compliance if xAI does not act voluntarily. It also cites instructions stating "'teenage' or 'girl' does not necessarily imply underage", while explicitly prohibiting child sexual abuse material. Durham University law professor Clare McGlynn described this as "chatbot-driven abuse", where the AI itself generates unrequested sexual content based on its training data. xAI has since said users will no longer be able to use Grok to generate sexualised images.
