LAIKA Studios Officially Shows Why ‘Wildwood’ Took 16 Years To Make [Exclusive]

Collider ·

LAIKA Studios has explained why its stop-motion fantasy film *Wildwood* took 16 years to make, describing a production that required unusually complex puppets and ambitious action sequences. The film is the studio’s longest stop-motion feature to date, and its technical demands help explain the lengthy process.

A behind-the-scenes feature will showcase figures including the colossal model for Angela Bassett’s character, the General, and the much smaller Septima, voiced by Awkwafina. Directed by Travis Knight, *Wildwood* follows Prue and her friend Curtis as they pursue her abducted baby brother into a hidden magical kingdom. The film is due in cinemas on 23 October 2026.
