HBO has released a new trailer for its DC Studios drama “Lanterns”, revealing the first on-screen look at Sinestro, a cameo from Guy Gardner and the apparent involvement of shape-shifting Manhunters in its central mystery. The trailer builds interest in the series by positioning it as a rural murder investigation with wider extraterrestrial implications, while linking it to familiar Green Lantern characters and the wider rebooted DC Universe.

The eight-episode series premieres on HBO on 16 August and stars Kyle Chandler as veteran Green Lantern Hal Jordan alongside Aaron Pierre as his trainee, John Stewart. Their investigation takes them to rural Nebraska, while Ulrich Thomsen plays Sinestro; Nathan Fillion reprises Guy Gardner after appearing in “Superman”. The show was created by Tom King, Damon Lindelof and showrunner Chris Mundy, with James Gunn and Peter Safran among its executive producers.
