HBO has released a new trailer for its DC Studios drama “Lanterns”, revealing the first on-screen look at Sinestro, a cameo from Guy Gardner and the apparent involvement of shape-shifting Manhunters in its central mystery. The trailer positions the series as a rural murder investigation with wider extraterrestrial implications, linking it to established Green Lantern characters and the rebooted DC Universe.
The eight-episode series premieres on HBO on 16 August and stars Kyle Chandler as veteran Green Lantern Hal Jordan alongside Aaron Pierre as trainee John Stewart. Their investigation takes them to rural Nebraska; Ulrich Thomsen plays Sinestro, while Nathan Fillion reprises Guy Gardner after appearing in “Superman”. The series was created by Tom King, Damon Lindelof and showrunner Chris Mundy, with DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran among its executive producers.
