A large contingent of South Yorkshire Police officers was seen gathering at Heeley Retail Park in Sheffield on the morning of 5 August 2026, ahead of another "day of action" under Operation Duxford, the force's recurring crackdown on crime across the region. The operation is aimed at disrupting criminality and reassuring residents by targeting issues including drug dealing, burglary, off-road bikes, anti-social behaviour, domestic abuse, modern slavery and organised crime.

Operation Duxford has previously seen more than 100 officers deployed in coordinated enforcement activity across Sheffield, Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham, resulting in arrests and drug seizures. Separately, roads policing officers had responded overnight to a large car meet in the city, where more than 500 vehicles gathered at Drakehouse Retail Park, underlining the scale of policing activity in Sheffield around this period.
