Dark Horse has announced a new Baldur’s Gate 3 comic series in partnership with Wizards of the Coast, with social media messaging also naming developer Larian Studios. Larian’s precise role has not been confirmed, but the announcement matters because the studio had previously said it would not make a sequel to its acclaimed role-playing game.

The news was revealed on 23 July at San Diego Comic-Con, shortly after Larian chief Swen Vincke hinted that an anniversary-related announcement was imminent. Wizards of the Coast is continuing to expand the franchise beyond the game, including an HBO Dungeons & Dragons series described as a sequel of sorts; the comic could potentially continue the story or explore the backgrounds of the seven origin characters.
