South African swimmer Chad le Clos says he hopes to become the Commonwealth Games’ most decorated male athlete at Glasgow 2026. The 34-year-old is currently tied on 18 medals with Australian shooter Phil Adams and England’s Mick Gault, and believes another medal would be a significant personal achievement after a difficult recent period.

Le Clos will contest the 50m and 100m butterfly, appearing at his fifth Commonwealth Games after debuting in Delhi in 2010. He won one silver at Birmingham 2022 while dealing with mental health issues, then took a 12-week break after injuries following the Paris 2024 Olympics; he says the rest helped him recover and continue competing against much younger rivals.
