Two leaders of an underground fraternity at the University of Wisconsin were arrested after police discovered 30 half-clothed pledges in a basement following an anonymous tip. Fraternity president Brayden J Klein and vice president Samuel N Vane, both 20, were taken into custody on disorderly conduct charges relating to an alleged hazing incident at Alpha Epsilon Pi. The incident is significant as it involved potential physical assault of young students and reveals the continued operation of a fraternity that was officially terminated by the university in 2015.

Officers found the pledges covered in food and other liquids in a sweltering basement with a thermostat set to 81 degrees Fahrenheit. The majority of the approximately 30 victims were 18-year-old students; several displayed visible injuries consistent with physical assault, including fresh red marks on their bodies. Police Captain Kipp Hartman described it as unprecedented in his two years with the district. The investigation remains ongoing, and the university's Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards will conduct a parallel investigation. The national Alpha Epsilon Pi organisation said it would cooperate fully and remove any members found responsible for criminal conduct.
