IDFA has added more than 100 films and projects to the programme for its 39th edition, running in Amsterdam from 12 to 22 November. The announcements span documentary competitions, established festival sections and interactive works, showing the breadth of the festival’s film and new-media programme.

The short documentary competition includes 15 films, among them works about a cross-country ski race, children playing amid earthquake ruins in southern Turkey, and Israelis viewing destruction near Gaza. For DocLab’s 20th anniversary, two interactive grant-winning projects will each receive €10,000; other works include a VR opera about a 17th-century Black woman in Amsterdam and a sensory exploration of the human body. The Signed section also includes Michal Marczak’s film about a father searching for his missing son, Ava DuVernay’s account of the US Constitution’s 14th Amendment, and a documentary following recruits at a French prison officers’ training school.
