Filmmaker Leslie Iwerks has made a new Disney+ documentary, "Disney Worldbuilders," premiering on 20 August, which explores how contemporary creative leaders are extending Walt Disney's original vision into today's theme park attractions. The film features figures including Bob Iger, James Cameron, Jennifer Lee, Kevin Feige, Jon Favreau, Pete Docter, Dave Filoni, Jared Bush and Josh D'Amaro, who discuss how franchises such as Avatar, Star Wars, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Pixar, Frozen and Zootopia were adapted into physical park experiences, continuing a legacy that spans generations at the company.

Iwerks has deep personal ties to Disney: her father Donald Iwerks worked on Disney projects for over six decades and pioneered advances in projection technology and 3D filmmaking, while her grandfather Ub Iwerks co-created Mickey Mouse alongside Walt Disney in 1928. The documentary is inspired by Walt Disney's own quote that "Disneyland will never be completed, as long as there is imagination left in the world," and includes a notable segment following Jennifer Lee to Disneyland Paris ahead of the opening of World of Frozen, where she reflects on childhood memories of Fantasyland that shaped the story of "Frozen."
