Deadline · 1 hour ago

Danish director Mads Mengel's debut feature "The Guest" has secured a wave of sales for the U.S. and multiple European territories following its prizewinning premiere in competition at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in July. The deals, brokered by Copenhagen-based sales house LevelK, follow the film winning Best Director and the Special Jury Award at Karlovy Vary, with critics praising its mix of Nordic dark comedy and family tension, underscoring growing international appetite for the Danish drama.

Juno Films picked up U.S. rights, while European buyers include France's L'atelier d'Images, Spain's Karma Films, Cherry Pickers for the Benelux region, CinemArt for the Czech Republic and Slovakia, and further distributors across Estonia, Hungary, Israel, Poland, Slovenia and Switzerland, alongside Palace for Australia and New Zealand. Starring Simon Bennebjerg, Josephine Park and Trine Dyrholm, the film follows a baby-naming celebration that unravels into family conflict when an estranged mother unexpectedly returns. Produced by Victor Cunha for Monolit Film with backing from the Danish Film Institute and broadcaster DR, the film will next screen at the Busan and Zurich film festivals.
