LG has agreed to remove a McAfee promotional pop-up from its Monitor App Installer after Microsoft’s Windows chief, Pavan Davuluri, intervened publicly. The change addresses a user-experience complaint involving LG monitors, but leaves intact the Windows mechanism that can silently install manufacturer software when devices are first connected.

The issue emerged after an LG UltraGear monitor prompted installation of LG’s app, which displayed the McAfee advert. McAfee references have since been removed from the Microsoft Store listing, yet the installer’s automatic deployment remains a documented Windows feature rather than a security flaw; manufacturers face little more than poor ratings if users object. The episode has renewed questions over Microsoft’s app-review controls and advertising across Windows.
