LinkedIn has introduced several new tools to combat the growing problem of fake profiles and fraudulent work histories on the platform, responding to how artificial intelligence has made it significantly easier for people to create fake accounts and engage in impersonation. This is particularly critical on LinkedIn, where professional credentials such as job titles, work experience, and certifications directly affect career opportunities and advancement—fraudulent claims can lead to unearned career prospects for those misrepresenting their qualifications.

The new features include a vouching system allowing members to verify colleagues' work experience, with strict protections requiring verifiers to have verified profiles, be connected for at least a year, and use two-factor authentication. Companies will gain new controls, including the ability to remove accounts falsely claiming employment from their company page and search results, and the option to require workplace verification (such as work email confirmation) for new accounts associating with their page. LinkedIn's existing verification tools have already verified 115 million users and over 700,000 companies on the platform.
