Lions have new rallying cry after Jack Campbell’s terrifying injury
The Detroit Lions have adopted the rallying cry “Play like 46” as they prepare to continue without linebacker Jack Campbell, who suffered a serious neck injury during Sunday’s 19-15 win over Minnesota. Defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard said the phrase emerged from an emotional team meeting and reflects how Campbell would want his teammates to prepare and compete.
Campbell, 26, was taken to hospital after being left motionless following a tackle attempt, and he remains hospitalised with no return timetable announced. He said he has full movement in his lower body and is making progress with movement in his upper body. Drafted 18th overall in 2023, Campbell was a Pro Bowler and first-team All-Pro in 2025; this season he has 57 tackles and a fumble recovery.
In short
- Detroit will play in Campbell’s honour.
- He reports encouraging progress in movement.
- No return timetable has been announced.
