Lisa, the Thai-born member of K-pop group Blackpink, is to be the subject of a feature documentary titled Always Lalisa, which will receive a limited theatrical run in cinemas and IMAX venues worldwide from 12 October before moving exclusively to YouTube Premium later in the year. The release was confirmed on Wednesday 2 September by Sony Music Vision, with the theatrical distribution handled by Trafalgar Releasing. The film is directed by Sue Kim.

The documentary is described as an intimate portrait of a pivotal twelve months in which Lisa stepped back from Blackpink's group activities to pursue a solo path, described by those behind the project as 'a year of independence.' It is said to explore the anxiety and pressure involved in launching a solo music career, breaking into acting and building a personal brand, alongside her attempts to preserve a private life away from public scrutiny. During this period she released her debut solo album, Alter Ego, which reached number seven on the Billboard 200 in 2025, and made her acting debut in HBO's The White Lotus. The material is pitched as capturing the challenges of establishing herself independently in the Western market, including heightened scrutiny and the task of redefining her own identity beyond the group.

Beyond the documentary itself, Lisa has had a busy period professionally. She was among the performers at the opening ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, singing 'Goals' alongside Anitta and Rema, and appeared as a solo act at Coachella in 2025. She also became the first K-pop artist to sit on the host committee for the Met Gala, held in 2026, and has two projects in the pipeline with Netflix: starring in and executive producing the action film Tygo, and an as-yet-untitled romantic comedy currently in development. A new solo EP, Press Play, is scheduled for release on 23 October, shortly after the documentary's cinema debut.

Always Lalisa is produced by Sony Music Vision alongside RCA Records and Tremolo Productions, in association with Salt Water Productions and LLOUD CO, with Sue Kim and Courtney Crockett producing for Salt Water Productions. The film had already been confirmed to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on 18 September, roughly a month before its wider cinema release, and tickets for the theatrical screenings are due to go on sale from 9 September via the film's official website.

Where outlets differ

Deadline's report focuses more heavily on Lisa's wider career milestones — the 2026 FIFA World Cup opening ceremony, her Coachella 2025 solo set, her role on the Met Gala host committee, and her two Netflix projects (Tygo and an untitled rom-com) — none of which appear in Billboard's account.

Billboard gives more detail on the documentary's narrative content, including direct descriptive language about it capturing 'risk, reinvention and self-discovery,' and specifies that the film covers the making of her debut album Alter Ego (No. 7 on the Billboard 200 in 2025), which Deadline does not mention.

Only Billboard notes the ticket on-sale date (9 September) and confirms the earlier-announced Toronto International Film Festival premiere date of 18 September; Deadline's report omits both details.
