The expanded edition represents a milestone for Shawn and Marlon Wayans, who had lost control of their creation following a rights dispute with Miramax leadership during the early 2000s. With ownership now restored to the brothers, the director's cut incorporates more than half an hour of supplemental material and an unreleased alternative ending, extending thirteen minutes past the theatrical release. Tiddes credits his formative years of enjoying DVD special features as the creative inspiration behind providing contemporary audiences with similar enriched content.
