Listen to Haruomi Hosono’s Cover of Doo-Wop Classic “Sincerely”

Haruomi Hosono has released a Japanese-language cover of the Moonglows’ 1954 doo-wop classic “Sincerely”, previewing his forthcoming album Yours Sincerely. The Yellow Magic Orchestra co-founder’s sparse acoustic-guitar version reinterprets the song around the word’s sense of heartfelt sincerity, rather than simply retaining its original romantic lyrics.

Hosono said he felt the song suited the album’s central theme, as “sincerely” is also a conventional closing salutation. Yours Sincerely is due on 11 September via Ghostly, and Hosono will perform two September shows with Toro y Moi: 16 September at Radio City Music Hall in New York and 20 September at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles.
