LIV Golf reboot hits snag as BC Partners drops rescue plan, FT reports
BC Partners has dropped its plan to help relaunch LIV Golf, according to the Financial Times, after failing to secure enough player commitments for a 2027 tournament series. The setback casts further doubt on the league’s future as it restructures following the withdrawal of its main financial backer, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund.
LIV filed for bankruptcy protection in New Jersey in September and has said it intends to keep operating during the reorganisation. BC Partners had invested in October and planned to provide up to $300 million, but key players including Bryson DeChambeau and Dustin Johnson reportedly did not commit; Jon Rahm is among prominent golfers to have left since the filing. LIV was due at a bankruptcy court hearing in Trenton on Thursday, where contracts, leases and assets were to be discussed.
In short
- BC Partners has abandoned its proposed LIV Golf rescue.
- Player commitments for a 2027 series fell short.
- LIV says it plans to continue through restructuring.
