Locarno Winner Nelson Yeo’s ‘The House on the Moon’ Boards Parallax Films for Worldwide Sales (EXCLUSIVE)

Variety · 3 hours ago

Parallax Films has taken on worldwide sales for Nelson Yeo’s “The House on the Moon”, a Singaporean wuxia science-fiction film that will have its world premiere in the international competition at the 79th Locarno Film Festival. The deal matters because it gives the film broader international market backing ahead of its festival launch, potentially helping it reach distributors and audiences beyond Asia. It also adds momentum to Yeo’s profile after his earlier Locarno success.

The film is directed by Yeo and co-written with Vicki Yang, drawing on the Chinese legends of Chang’e and Hou Yi while combining martial-arts storytelling with science fiction. Parallax holds exclusive rights in most international territories, excluding German-speaking markets, Taiwan and Singapore, and has non-exclusive rights in other parts of South-East Asia. Described as Singapore’s first wuxia feature and its first feature made using virtual production technology, the film stars Lim Shi-An, Dominick Rustam, Akira Huang, Harry Chang, Lee Kang-sheng and Doreen Toh, and is backed by producers from Momo Film Co, Aview Images and several co-production partners, with financing from TAICCA and support from the Singapore Film Commission.
