Florida rapper Loe Shimmy has released his new album Pretty Girlz Run the World, following a run of high-profile guest work including "I'm Spent," a track he wrote for Drake's Habibti album earlier this year. Shimmy told Rolling Stone the song came together in a St Louis hotel room while on tour supporting Sexyy Red, inspired by a woman asking him to buy her things, and Drake later reworked it into a hit. The album, out since 24 July, marks a deliberate shift towards a softer, more melodic sound rather than a full reinvention, building on tendencies he says have always been present in his music.

The record features Brent Faiyaz on the title track "Run the World," continuing a collaboration that began with 2024's "For Me," and includes production from Smash David, Pooh Beatz and Caleb Bryant. Other tracks include "Too Exotic," which revisits his earlier menacing style but with a focus on how he treats women, "Everyday," which samples Cherrelle and Alexander O'Neal's 1985 song "Saturday Love," and "Seduce You," built around a West Coast funk beat. Shimmy first broke through with the grittier 2020 EP Zombie Land before gradually incorporating more romantic and melodic elements into his output.
