Amazon has ordered a U.S. version of "LOL: Last One Laughing", the international comedy format that has proved a major hit for the streamer worldwide, particularly in the UK, where its first season became one of Amazon's biggest-ever series launches. The move follows persistent demand from viewers and executives alike, with Amazon MGM Studios' head of nonfiction series Jenn Levy revealing earlier this year that a US edition was the question she was asked most often since taking the role.

The show's format sees ten top comics and comedic actors spend six hours together trying to make one another laugh without cracking a smile themselves. Fulwell Entertainment, the company behind "The Kardashians" and "World Cup After Hours with James Corden", will produce, with Eric Pankowski serving as showrunner alongside executive producers Ben Winston and Emma Conway; the cast has yet to be announced. Originally adapted from the Japanese series "Documental", the format has already been remade in more than 25 territories, including the UK (hosted by Jimmy Carr), Canada, Mexico, South Africa, Ireland and Australia.
