The Los Angeles Lakers have released an official 528-page photo book in collaboration with luxury publisher Taschen, documenting the franchise's history from its Minneapolis origins through recent championship victories. The book distinguishes itself from typical sports histories by examining the Lakers' cultural impact on Hollywood, celebrity culture and fashion, reflecting the team's significance as a global phenomenon.

Published and edited by Vikki Tobak, "Lakers: An Official History of the Purple & Gold" spans 10 chapters and features contributions from basketball legends including Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, Shaquille O'Neal and LeBron James, alongside Hollywood figures. The book includes design-focused elements such as a four-page gatefold displaying the team's 17 championship rings, sections tracking uniform evolution and retired numbers, historic promotional materials and play diagrams highlighting key moments from the Showtime era through the 2020 championship. The book is currently available on the Taschen website, with a wider retail release scheduled for 1 October.
