Yard Act say their forthcoming album, You’re Gonna Need A Little Music, reflects both their Leeds roots and time recording in Los Angeles. The band argue that remaining based in Leeds protects their regional perspective and creativity, despite acknowledging that London offers more music-industry opportunities.

The album was recorded in two stages after a tour schedule created time pressures: five weeks in Leeds amid family responsibilities, followed by sessions in Los Angeles. Frontman James Smith criticised the industry’s London focus and increasing emphasis on virality, while the band said they would not tailor their music to audience expectations; they have enough unused material to consider a deluxe edition with up to eight additional tracks.
