Lovecraft Horror Meets Snowpiercer in One of 2026’s Biggest Hidden Gems

Dreadline Express, the debut solo project from developer David Konecny, was previewed at Gamescom 2026 and is emerging as a standout indie title in a Snowpiercer-esque setting infused with Lovecraftian horror. Players take on the role of protagonist Samuel Mather aboard the last human train, which is under attack from tentacled, otherworldly horrors while its passengers slowly descend into madness, creating a psychological horror experience built more on unsettling atmosphere than jump scares.

The game uses a card-based system to represent clues and knowledge, with most puzzles offering multiple solutions depending on how players interact with other passengers and their environment, giving it notable replayability. During the preview, the writer discovered they played an apothecary character and used items such as laudanum to help a suffering passenger named Euler, before facing a major, story-altering decision about which passenger to sacrifice. Konecny said he had not been aware of Snowpiercer when developing the game despite the clear similarities. Dreadline Express is due to release on Windows PC later in 2026.
